Why do we care about Farmers' Markets?
The problem outlined with the Farmers Markets point to a greater issue with food accessibility in the Bronx as a whole. Just because a market exists does not mean that they are selling anything that is better or more beneficial to the community than their local bodegas. The term "Farmers' Market" often elicits an image of rolling pastures, a few dairy cows, and locally grown produce - but is that really the case in the Bronx? The data would suggest otherwise, and we thought this was necessary to include in the overall picture of food access in the Bronx.
