Cycling and Health
For this project, I wanted to discover the relation of cycling to health, especially in the Bronx area. I was on a professional track cycling team during my high school years, and we travelled around the nation competing at different races. Because of this amazing opportunity, the world of cycling was revealed to me and now I truly wish for everyone to have the opportunity to bike. And because of this desire, I focused my project on this topic. The main questions I asked were: why don’t more people bike and what can we do to encourage people to do so? To help answer these questions, I visited several large parks in the Bronx (St. Nicholas and St Mary Park) that were popular with cyclists and pedestrians, and surveyed people both on and off bikes. I also partnered with BronxWorks to survey and interview people about their events, which are aimed at increasing healthy activities and habits in the Mott Haven area. Here are my findings.
